21.04.2026 Folk music and a festive spring feel with BFP at Uusimaa Day in Loviisa on 21 May For the third year in a row, Uusimaa Day invites people across Uusimaa to enjoy culture, time together and nature. This year, the main celebration takes place in Loviisa on Thursday 21 May. “Uusimaa Day will be celebrated across the region in exactly one month, and Loviisa provides a great setting for the spring celebration,” says Katriina Rosavaara, who coordinates the event at the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council. A spring celebration with a great atmosphere The evening’s main act is BFP, a folk music band previously known as Bergå Folk Project. The group will perform at Seurahuone in Loviisa on Thursday 21 May at 6 pm. BFP blends international influences with folk music traditions: songs are performed in eight languages and played on as many as twelve instruments. The result is an energetic and impressive ensemble, which won the Ethno of the Year Award at the Emma Gaala. “It is a great honour to host the Uusimaa Day celebration in Loviisa. Loviisa has a rich cultural life, and we are delighted to share a glimpse of it through the celebration,” says Nina Wiklund, Cultural and Tourism Coordinator. A trio from the Loviisa Music Institute will also perform. During the evening, the Village of the Year in Uusimaa and the Helsinki-Uusimaa Award will also be presented. Greeting speeches will be given by Tomas Björkroth, Mayor of Loviisa, and Jarno Limnell, President of the Board. The celebration, which lasts just over an hour, will be hosted in Finnish and Swedish by actor Robert Jordas. The Uusimaa Day spring celebration is free and open to everyone. Attendance in Loviisa is limited to the first 200 people to register. The celebration can also be watched live on Yle Areena. The link will be published later. The event is organised by the City of Loviisa and the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council. Join us to celebrate!
